A man was killed in a shootout with Pueblo officers in a fast food parking lot in Pueblo, Colorado on Wednesday night. The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. when officers responded to reports of an armed man in the area, as stated in an official report. Upon arrival, the officers located what they believed to be the suspect’s vehicle in the parking lot of a Popeyes restaurant situated in the 1500 block of West Highway 50, near the Pueblo County Club.
According to the statement released by the authorities, the man inside the vehicle disregarded the officers’ commands to show his hands and instead opened fire at them. The preliminary information provided does not confirm the existence of camera footage to support these claims. In response, the Pueblo officers returned fire, ultimately resulting in the suspect’s death. The identity of the deceased individual will be disclosed by the Pueblo County Coroner.
Fortunately, no officers sustained any injuries during the incident. As per standard protocol, the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave while the 10th Judicial District’s Critical Incident Response Team, led by the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office, conducts an investigation into the shooting.
