Man Fatally Shot by Police at Germantown Middle School

A man was shot and killed by Germantown police officers at Kennedy Middle School on Monday. The police stated that the man, identified as 32-year-old Kevin Foy from Lake Villa, Illinois, was behaving erratically and fired shots at the officers. Foy was in Germantown for a work trip. According to his family, Foy had served two tours in Afghanistan as an army combat and suffered from severe post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). He had shown little interest in seeking help for his condition.

Levi Markers, a veteran who also served in Afghanistan and is still dealing with PTSD, shared his own experiences and expressed concern that many veterans are not receiving adequate support. Markers mentioned an incident where he faced potential criminal charges after an altercation with family members. He emphasized the need for better coping mechanisms and support for veterans struggling with mental health issues.

Jorge Monterrey, a Marine Corps veteran, echoed Markers’ sentiments and highlighted the common tendency among veterans to isolate themselves and disregard proper treatment. Monterrey emphasized the importance of reaching out to fellow veterans and providing support. Both Markers and Monterrey are actively involved in supporting veterans through initiatives such as Defense Combatives and Dry Hootch, which offer peer support and mentorship programs.
