Man Fatally Shot by Police After Stabbing Wife at International Women’s Day Party

A man was shot dead by police in Forest Hills, Queens, after stabbing his wife during an International Women’s Day party, according to a relative who spoke to The Post. The incident occurred on Friday night among close family and friends who had gathered to celebrate the significant day in the family’s native Uzbekistan and other post-Soviet republics.

The victim, Amira Nematov, is currently hospitalized and in a lot of pain, as she recovers from the stab wound to her stomach. The relative, who spoke from her bedside, revealed that Amira is only able to express her pain and has not been informed of her husband’s death.

The husband, identified as Djamshed Nematov, had been experiencing mental health issues, including hallucinations and strange conversations with himself, for the past month. He had also been suffering from physical pain due to a hernia, which prevented him from working as a home health aide. Despite her concerns, Amira had been worried about her husband’s well-being.

The NYPD responded to 911 calls reporting the stabbing and fatally shot Djamshed Nematov when he refused to drop the knife he was carrying. The wife, unaware of her husband’s demise, has undergone one surgery and may require additional medical procedures. The couple, who had been married for over 20 years, has four children.

Neighbors, who had never witnessed any fights between the couple until recently, reported hearing arguing and screaming moments before the stabbing. The police officers involved in the incident ordered Djamshed to drop the knife, but he charged at them instead, leading to the use of force.

The couple’s four children, aged 23, 20, 17, and 14, now have to cope with the aftermath of this tragic event. The family has been described as a nice and well-mannered one by their neighbors.
