Man Charged with Murder After Estranged Wife’s Body in Florida Storage Unit

Shakeira Yvonne Rucker

Cory Hill, 51, has been charged with the murder of his estranged wife, Shakeira Yvonne Rucker, 37, after her body was discovered in a storage unit in Orange County, Florida. Rucker, reported missing since November 11, was last seen leaving her home, possibly with Hill, as stated by her family to the Winter Springs Police Department.

The case took a turn when Florida law enforcement officials, investigating Rucker’s disappearance as a homicide, found her body in a storage unit registered to Hill. The Office of the State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit announced the formal charges against Hill, who was already in jail on unrelated charges of attempted murder from a November shooting involving his ex-girlfriend and her family.

Hill, who was initially booked on November 13, now faces an additional charge of Second Degree Murder (With a Firearm) for Rucker’s death. Authorities found Rucker’s body in a self-storage facility on Wiggins Road in Apopka, after reports of an unusual smell from a unit registered to Hill. Rucker had apparently suffered gunshot wounds.

Prosecutors are seeking to elevate the charges to first-degree murder, pending a grand jury indictment. Hill remains in jail under a no bond status, and his public defender has yet to comment on the charges.
