Chase Allen Cancilla, a 21-year-old resident of Antioch, has been charged with a four-count complaint by the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. Cancilla was arrested following his alleged involvement in an Antioch sideshow that occurred early Sunday morning. The incident took place at the Marina Plaza around 2:50 a.m., resulting in one car being submerged in the San Joaquin River.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, Cancilla fled the scene at high speed and subsequently crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of West 9th Street and G Street. The collision left two individuals injured, including a woman who is currently in critical condition. Cancilla attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by a police officer.
Contra Costa County District Attorney Diane Becton emphasized the dangers posed by sideshows, stating that they jeopardize community safety for both participants and the general public. The District Attorney’s Office remains committed to prosecuting offenses related to sideshows under California law.
Cancilla now faces two felony counts of reckless driving on a highway resulting in injuries, along with enhancements for causing great bodily harm to others. Additionally, he has been charged with felony hit-and-run causing serious injury and a misdemeanor for operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license. Cancilla was arraigned in court on Wednesday, with bail set at $191,000.
