Man Arrested for Suspected Murder and Arson in San Pablo Creek Case

San Pablo authorities have apprehended a 35-year-old man, William Ramirez, on suspicion of killing a woman and setting her body on fire near San Pablo Creek earlier this month. The victim’s body was discovered by Contra Costa County firefighters on July 2, following a report of a fire in the vicinity of the 1900 block of Road 20. The woman’s identity remains undisclosed, and her cause of death initially eluded investigators. However, a subsequent autopsy revealed that she had suffered a fatal blow to the head.

Both Ramirez and the victim were unhoused individuals, according to the San Pablo Police Department. Investigators identified Ramirez as a person of interest and subsequently obtained a warrant for his arrest on charges of murder and arson. On Thursday morning, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1800 block of 23rd Street, where they took Ramirez into custody. Additionally, police recovered evidence linking him to the homicide.

Ramirez has been booked into the Martinez Detention Facility, where he is being held pending the filing of formal charges by the district attorney’s office. Authorities urge anyone with information related to the case to contact the San Pablo Police Department at 510-215-3150.

  1. This is a horrifying and tragic incident. I wonder what the author’s thoughts are on the issue of violence against women and what steps they believe should be taken to address and prevent such crimes in our society?
