A man accused of shooting a mail carrier and stealing her vehicle in Mars Hill, North Carolina, has been arrested.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when Jaden Garay, who was inside the postal worker’s vehicle, led police on a chase along Interstate 40. The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed along Williams Road, just south of Morganton. Police deployed stop sticks, flattening two of the vehicle’s tires. Garay managed to escape into the nearby woods.
A perimeter was established with over three dozen officers involved in the search for Garay. He was eventually apprehended early Wednesday morning.
In an interview with Channel 9’s Dave Faherty, Garay expressed remorse for his actions, stating that he was not thinking straight at the time. “Sorry mom, sorry dad, sorry North Carolina,” he said.
Records show Garay was was charged with two felony counts of attempted first-degree murder and given a $2 million bond.
