A 51-year-old man was apprehended by authorities in Redwood City after allegedly robbing a convenience store at knifepoint. The incident occurred on Saturday around 12:15 p.m. at the 7-Eleven situated at the intersection of 5th Avenue and Bay Road, according to a news release from the Redwood City Police Department.
The store clerk informed officers that the suspect had taken items from the store without making any payment. When the clerk confronted the man, he menacingly brandished a large knife, prompting the clerk to retreat into the store and contact emergency services. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Shortly after the incident, deputies from the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office detained the suspect near the scene. Both the clerk and a witness positively identified the man as the perpetrator of the robbery. Additionally, the stolen items and the knife were discovered in close proximity to the location.
The 51-year-old suspect was subsequently arrested and booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City. He faces charges of second-degree robbery and a probation violation. Jail records indicate that he is being held on $50,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on June 25.
