Man Arrested for Robbery and Assault After Hatchet Attack at Fremont Restaurant

A 35-year-old Fremont resident, Evin Sagastume, has been arrested and charged with robbery and assault after a violent incident at a restaurant in Fremont. The attack occurred on Friday, March 22, near Mission and Warm Springs Boulevard.

According to the Fremont Police Department, officers received a report of a man yelling inside the establishment while wielding a small hatchet. The suspect proceeded to strike a restaurant employee with the weapon, causing a minor injury to the victim’s arm. After the assault, the assailant fled the scene with stolen food.

Fortunately, law enforcement officers swiftly responded to the incident and managed to apprehend Sagastume a short distance away from the restaurant. He was subsequently booked into Santa Rita Jail and is facing charges of robbery, criminal threats, and assault with a deadly weapon.

Records indicate that Sagastume has a prior arrest history, including charges of assault with a deadly weapon and weapon possession. His bail has been set at $50,000, as per county jail records.

The Fremont Police Department has not disclosed the name of the targeted restaurant.
