Man Arrested for Operating Power Wheels Jeep While Intoxicated

Body camera and dash camera footage from a recent traffic stop in Vincennes, Indiana, involving a man driving a Power Wheels Jeep has been released. The video, obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, shows an Indiana State Police Trooper pulling over 51-year-old John McKee on Second Street. McKee, who was driving the child’s toy, informed the trooper that he was heading home from a gas station with a can of gas.

During the traffic stop, the trooper noticed that McKee had left the gas can behind. After checking with dispatch, the trooper administered field sobriety tests, which McKee failed. McKee was then informed that he needed to go to the hospital for a blood test, and the trooper proceeded to search the vehicle.

During the search, the trooper discovered six batteries designed for or compatible with the Power Wheels Vehicle scattered around the passenger seat and back compartment of the toy Jeep. McKee was later confirmed to be under the influence of methamphetamine and marijuana at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was subsequently arrested and taken to the Knox County Jail on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Todd Ringle confirmed that McKee had a previous conviction for operating a vehicle while impaired.
