Oklahoma City police have apprehended a man accused of kidnapping a child after stealing a car with the child inside. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon near NW 50th and Harvey Parkway. The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Ryan Winkler, allegedly took the vehicle from the family’s driveway, with their 2-year-old son, Ryland Penner, still inside.
Following the car theft, an Amber Alert was issued, and law enforcement officers launched a search for the missing child. Several hours later, the 2-year-old boy was found safe at an apartment complex in northwestern Oklahoma City, nearly 20 miles away from the scene of the kidnapping.
Neighbors in the area expressed shock and relief upon learning that the suspect had been apprehended. They stated that incidents like this were uncommon in their neighborhood and expressed concerns for their safety.
Ryan Winkler has been taken into custody and booked into the Oklahoma County Jail. He is now facing charges of kidnapping, child neglect, and automobile larceny.
