A 26-year-old man, Brandon Thompson, has been arrested in connection with the brutal assault on a University of Wisconsin student in Madison. Thompson is accused of raping and beating the young woman, leaving her with life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred in the college town’s commercial district around 3:30 a.m.
Madison police have charged Thompson with sexual assault, reckless injury, and strangulation. Chief Shon Barnes described the assault as “horrific” and emphasized the importance of ensuring justice for the survivor. The police department has prioritized this case as a top priority.
According to authorities, Thompson remained at the scene of the crime after the assault and engaged in conversation with an eyewitness who came to the victim’s aid. He allegedly posed as an innocent bystander, claiming to have just found the survivor.
The arrest of Thompson took place three days after the assault occurred. The victim suffered a broken jaw and sustained severe injuries. She is currently in critical condition.
