Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced increased police patrols after a man was apprehended for allegedly breaking into a Jewish family’s home and issuing threats. The incident, which occurred earlier in the day, prompted Mayor Bass to strongly condemn the act of hate. The suspect, seen in custody wearing only underwear, repeatedly shouted “Free Palestine!” during the incident.
According to reports, a woman called 911 before dawn to report a home invasion, stating that she and her four children were hiding as the intruder threatened to kill them. The husband of the woman, who confronted the intruder, expressed fear due to the ongoing situation in Israel and their Israeli background.
Fortunately, no physical harm was inflicted during the incident, as confirmed by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). At present, the LAPD has not provided any additional information regarding the suspect.
Mayor Bass called for swift action to ensure the responsible individual is held fully accountable. She emphasized the city’s unwavering support for the Jewish community and stated that Los Angeles will not succumb to hate.
The incident comes at a time when Jewish and Muslim communities in the United States are increasingly distressed and on edge due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. Earlier this month, a Palestinian American boy in Illinois was fatally stabbed by his landlord, who targeted him because of his Muslim faith, according to officials.
