Man Accused of Preying on Women Along Walking Trails to Stand Trial

A San Mateo County judge has ruled that Jaime Mogollan, a 40-year-old man from San Bruno, will stand trial for allegedly preying on half a dozen women along walking trails in Millbrae and San Bruno. Mogollan remains in custody with bail set at $300,000. The preliminary hearing concluded on Wednesday after prosecutors presented evidence of sexual assaults that occurred during the summer.

One incident in August involved a 29-year-old Millbrae woman who was walking along Spur Trail wearing headphones. Surveillance cameras captured Mogollan following the woman for three blocks before he approached her from behind, pulled down her pants, grabbed her buttocks, and reached between her legs, according to prosecutors. The victim struggled and fell to the ground while the assailant fled on a mountain bicycle.

Another incident occurred a few days later on Poplar Avenue, where a 38-year-old woman walking with her son was groped from behind by Mogollan, prompting her to scream and causing the assailant to run away. During some of the sexual assaults, Mogollan was wearing a distinctive sweatshirt with a “Wall Street Journal” logo.

Following an investigation, deputies arrested Mogollan and linked him to at least six sexual battery incidents. Judge Rachel Holt has ordered the defendant to return to court on October 25 for further proceedings.
