Majority of Voters Believe Trump Committed Serious Federal Crimes, Poll Shows

On the eve of jury selection in New York, a new poll reveals that a majority of voters believe former President Donald Trump has committed “serious federal crimes.” The poll, conducted by The New York Times and Siena College, indicates that 54% of registered voters, including 90% of Democrats, nearly half of independents, and 17% of Republicans, hold this belief.

Trump is set to face trial on charges of falsifying business records to conceal a $130,000 payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels in 2016. The payment was allegedly made in exchange for her silence regarding an affair with Trump. Michael Cohen, Trump’s former personal lawyer, has admitted to arranging the payment and is expected to be a key witness in the trial. Trump, however, has consistently denied these allegations.

The poll also reveals that 46% of likely voters believe Trump should be found guilty in the hush money case, while 36% believe he should not be convicted. The remaining 18% either expressed uncertainty or declined to answer.

In addition to the poll results, the survey shows President Joe Biden narrowing the gap between himself and Trump. Forty-six percent of voters expressed support for Trump, while 45% favored Biden. Eight percent of respondents were unsure or chose not to disclose their preference.
