A Louisiana court convicted Ureka Rochelle Black, 34, for the murder of her 10-month-old son and attempted murder of her 5-year-old child on Wednesday. Last September, Black had thrown both her children into Cross Lake, resulting in the infant’s death and injuries to the older child, who later identified his mother as the perpetrator to authorities. Following a brief deliberation, jurors unanimously found Black guilty. Arrested near the Texas-Louisiana border, Black, who represented herself in court, is set to be sentenced by State District Judge Donald E. Hathaway Jr. on September 28, with a mandatory life sentence expected.
