Police in Janesville, Wisconsin, are investigating the discovery of a live explosive device at a local Goodwill Store and Donation Center. On Friday, employees found ammunition and a “military grade” explosive device while organizing donated items. The area was evacuated, and nearby businesses were temporarily closed as a precaution. Bomb squad technicians from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office identified the device as a live cluster bomblet and safely collected it for destruction.
The person responsible for including the device in the donation has not been identified. The Janesville Police Department expressed gratitude to residents and workers for their cooperation during the investigation.
The evacuated area and the Goodwill store have since been reopened.
