Reported attack that left a 68-year-old man seriously injured.

A 68-year-old liquor store employee in Winchester, California, sustained severe injuries after being sucker-punched in a broad daylight attack last month. The incident occurred on October 27 outside Sun Valley Market and Liquor, where Carlos Munguia has worked for four years. Surveillance video shows Munguia taking out the trash with a dolly in the store’s parking lot when a man approached him and initiated a conversation before suddenly punching him and fleeing the scene.

Munguia’s wife, who also works at the liquor store, became concerned when she noticed his prolonged absence. It was only when a customer assisted in bringing him back into the store that she realized something was wrong. Initially, Munguia claimed he had fallen when questioned about the incident, but his family discovered the truth after viewing the surveillance footage.

According to Munguia’s daughter-in-law, Alma Romero, he suffered a fractured skull and brain bleeding as a result of the attack. His recovery process is expected to be long and uncertain.

The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Izack Ramirez from Winchester, was apprehended by deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department one day after the assault. Authorities discovered evidence of the crime during a search of Ramirez’s residence. He is now facing felony charges, including battery and inflicting great bodily injury to an elder. Ramirez has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, November 17.
