Kidnapper Poses as Undercover Officer, Victim Escapes Makeshift Jail Cell

A horrifying ordeal unfolded in Seattle as a man deceived a woman by posing as an undercover police officer, only to kidnap her and subject her to a nightmarish ordeal. After being driven hundreds of miles to the outskirts of Klamath Falls, Oregon, she was trapped in a cinderblock jail cell specifically constructed by her captor. Fortunately, her perseverance and wit allowed her to escape, potentially saving other innocent women from a similar fate.

The suspect, identified as Negasi Zuberi, a 29-year-old individual who used various aliases including Sakima, Justin Hyche, and Justin Kouassi, has now been apprehended and faces federal charges. Authorities are actively searching for additional victims, suspecting him of perpetrating sexual assaults in at least four other states. Zuberi’s capture was made possible due to the quick actions of law enforcement agencies in Reno, Nevada.

According to the criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court, Zuberi lured the woman, referred to as Adult Victim 1, into prostitution along Seattle’s notorious Aurora Avenue, a known area for sex work. Falsely claiming to be an undercover officer, he displayed a badge, brandished a stun gun, and callously restrained her with handcuffs and leg irons. He then transported her to his residence in Klamath Falls while subjecting her to sexual assault during the journey.

Upon arriving at his home, Zuberi imprisoned her in a harrowing makeshift cinderblock cell, constructed in his garage, fitted with a metal bar door. Leaving her alone under the pretense of attending to paperwork, he left her helpless and terrified. In a remarkable display of resilience, the distraught woman realized that her only chance of survival was to make a daring escape. She desperately pounded on the cell door until she successfully broke it open, her hands bloodied from the struggle. Unyielding, she fled the scene and left behind a trail of courage and determination.

Seeking assistance from a compassionate passerby, the woman’s escape triggered a swift response from law enforcement. Stephanie Shark, the assistant special agent in charge of the FBI’s Portland field office, hailed her as a hero, acknowledging that her bravery may have prevented further women from becoming victims.

As the investigation into Zuberi’s heinous actions continues, authorities have discovered that he has led a transient lifestyle, with residences potentially spanning multiple states since 2016. These states include California, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Utah, Florida, New York, New Jersey, Alabama, and Nevada. The magnitude of his alleged crimes and the broad geographic range emphasize the urgency of apprehending any additional victims and bringing them justice.

In an unsettling reminder of the dangers that lurk within society, this shocking incident serves to highlight the importance of vigilance and awareness. The strength exhibited by the survivor in the face of unimaginable terror is an inspiring testament to the indomitable spirit of the human will. It is our collective responsibility to support and protect one another, ensuring that no person becomes a victim of such appalling acts.
