Juvenile Suspect Arrested for Firing Gun Near Temple University Campus

Philadelphia police have apprehended a juvenile male suspect in connection with the recent incident involving gunfire near Temple University’s campus. The arrest comes after chaos erupted on Saturday evening when hundreds of individuals gathered near Broad Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue. At least seven teenagers were cited for disorderly conduct during the commotion.

The suspect, described as wearing a camouflage jacket and brown sweatpants, fled the scene following the gunshots. However, on Tuesday, Philadelphia police executed a search warrant at a residence on the 2700 block of N. Hancock Street. During the search, authorities recovered a stolen firearm believed to be the weapon used in the shooting. The suspect was also found at the location and subsequently taken into custody.

The arrested individual now faces charges of theft, receiving stolen property, and gun crimes, as announced by the police. Temple University officials have stated that they do not believe any of their students were involved in the incident.

The gathering near the university was initially advertised as a meet-up on social media but quickly spiraled out of control. Video footage captured the moment when approximately 500 teenagers began running after the shots were fired. Prior to the incident, witnesses reported that the teenagers were recklessly running in and out of traffic.
