Jason Arroyo has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the September 2020 killing of Patricia Cruz in Denver. The verdict was delivered by a jury on Wednesday, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office. Arroyo faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. The sentencing is scheduled for December 1.
The incident occurred on September 6, 2020, when Arroyo allegedly threw water on children playing in a yard near 35th Avenue and Lipan Street. A dispute ensued, and Arroyo left the scene only to return with a gun. He fired approximately six shots, hitting two individuals. Patricia Cruz succumbed to her injuries almost two weeks later.
The Denver District Attorney’s Office stated that Arroyo’s conviction carries a mandatory life sentence without parole. The sentencing hearing will take place on December 1.
