An innocent woman was tragically killed and several others were injured after suspected car thieves crashed into two vehicles at the intersection of MLK Boulevard and Van Fleet Street in southeast Houston. The incident occurred when the suspects stole a gray Dodge Charger and collided with the vehicles stopped at a red light. The victim, identified as the mother of a Houston police sergeant, lost her life in the crash.
Houston Police Chief Troy Finner tweeted that the sergeant is in shock and requested prayers for the family. The suspects, who were in their 20s, were apprehended after a pursuit that ended in a crash captured by a nearby gas station’s surveillance footage. Chief Finner expressed his intention to review police pursuit policies and the handling of such situations by officers.
Chief Finner has already requested the district attorney’s office to pursue murder charges against the suspects. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities are collecting evidence and processing the scene.
