Massachusetts State Police have announced an immediate increase in their presence in highly trafficked areas of the Commonwealth following a shooting incident at a political rally for former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. The agency has clarified that there is currently no known connection or direct threat to Massachusetts.
The Massachusetts State Police is working closely with federal, state, and local partners to closely monitor the events that unfolded during the rally. Governor Maura Healey has been briefed on the situation, and the State Police will continue to provide situational updates to the Governor and the Executive Office of Public Safety.
The FBI has confirmed that the shooting is being investigated as an assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump. Fortunately, Trump sustained only a minor injury to his right ear and plans to appear at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on July 15th. Tragically, one attendee at the rally lost their life.
The gunman responsible for the attack has been identified as a 20-year-old individual from Bethel, Pennsylvania. The assailant died at the scene. Governor Healey has strongly condemned political violence, emphasizing that it has no place in the country and urging all Americans to denounce it.
