Horseback Rider Arrested for DUI in Merced, California

A horseback rider in Merced, California was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) after being found carrying an open container of alcohol while riding. The incident was captured in a video posted on Instagram by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) on September 10.

Officer Kody Brackett of the CHP noticed the rider with the open container and approached them out of concern for everyone’s safety. It became evident to Brackett that the rider was impaired by alcohol, leading to their arrest for a DUI. The arrest was made in accordance with California’s Vehicle Code 21050, which applies to people riding animals on the highway.
