Gunmen in Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Dagestan have launched a series of attacks, resulting in the deaths of six police officers and the injury of twelve others. The attacks targeted a synagogue and churches in the cities of Derbent and Makhachkala. State media, quoting the local Interior Ministry, reported that a Russian Orthodox priest was also killed in the violence. Two attackers were shot dead during the incidents.
Footage circulating on social media shows buildings engulfed in flames, highlighting the severity of the attacks. The assailants responsible for these acts of violence have not yet been identified. However, Dagestan has previously witnessed Islamist attacks, making it a potential backdrop for such incidents.
An unofficial channel on the Telegram messaging app, known as Mash, reported that gunmen had barricaded themselves in a building in Derbent. The situation remains fluid, and authorities are working to bring the situation under control.

This is truly a tragic incident that highlights the ongoing security challenges in the North Caucasus region. It reminds me of a similar case that occurred in my own country a few years ago.
In 2015, there was a series of coordinated attacks by gunmen in the city of Paris, France. The attackers targeted multiple locations, including a concert hall, a stadium, and several restaurants. The attacks resulted in the deaths of 130 people and left hundreds injured.
The incident sent shockwaves throughout the country
