A gunman suspected of breaking into a building at Ohio State University’s south campus in Columbus, Ohio, and opening fire on police officers is dead after an hours-long standoff. The incident occurred on Sunday morning around 8 a.m., prompting a call to authorities.
According to reports from WCMH, when law enforcement arrived at the scene, they witnessed the suspect reloading a firearm before barricading himself inside the building. At least two exchanges of gunfire between the suspect and police occurred before 9 a.m., with no injuries reported on either side.
The standoff continued for several hours, during which negotiators and tactical teams were deployed to the scene. The suspect was finally pronounced dead at 1:15 p.m., although the exact cause of death remains unclear at this time.
