Georgia Mom Arrested for Driving with Son in Trunk of Car

A Georgia mom, Diana Denise Shaffer, 36, was apprehended by authorities after a viral video captured her driving down a local road with her 12-year-old son seated inside the trunk of her Dodge sedan. The Gwinnett County Police Department announced on Facebook that Shaffer has been charged with reckless conduct and issued a citation for a seat belt violation.

The police department initially came across the video on social media, which referenced “Gwinnett County.” However, the exact location and date of the incident were unclear. The footage revealed a large object in the trunk, along with the child visible inside the vehicle.

Law enforcement officers managed to track down the vehicle, which had out-of-state plates, and subsequently located Shaffer at her residence in Duluth on Tuesday. She was promptly arrested and taken into custody.

According to police, Shaffer claimed that she had instructed her son to sit in the trunk to prevent a baby bassinet she had purchased online from flying out of the car while driving. She allegedly instructed him to hold onto it during the journey.

Following her arrest, Shaffer was booked at the Gwinnett County Jail, while her son was placed under the care of relatives. She was able to post bail on Wednesday, as reported by WANF-TV.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of the child involved. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter to ensure appropriate measures are taken to protect the child’s welfare.
