A Georgia man has been arrested in connection with the death of Tracy Cole, the great-nephew of world-renowned singer and jazz pianist Nat King Cole. Tracy Cole was fatally stabbed in Atlanta on September 14, and he died at the hospital. The suspect, Ricardo Gayle, 41, was taken into custody during a traffic stop on Saturday. According to WSB-TV, the police stated that Gayle and Cole knew each other.
Ricardo Gayle has been charged with several offenses, including murder, aggravated assault, and armed robbery. He was booked into the Fulton County Jail. It is unclear whether Gayle has retained a private attorney, as the Office of the Public Defender in Atlanta did not answer calls on Sunday. Jail records do not list an attorney for Gayle, and attempts to reach a family member for comment on his behalf were unsuccessful.
Tracy Cole was the grandson of Freddy Cole, one of Nat King Cole’s three brothers. Freddy Cole, a famous jazz singer and pianist, was also inducted into the Georgia Hall of Fame.
