Chance Comanche, a 27-year-old NBA G League player, was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Jail on charges of first-degree kidnapping. The arrest is linked to the disappearance of 23-year-old Marayna Rodgers, a medical assistant from Washington, who went missing in Las Vegas on December 6.
Rodgers was last seen getting into a car with Sakari Harnden, 19, during her trip to Las Vegas. Harnden has also been arrested and charged with first-degree kidnapping, as reported by KLAS, citing court records. A criminal complaint alleges that Harnden detained Rodgers against her will.
In addition to the kidnapping charge, Harnden faces a theft charge for allegedly stealing a Rolex. Rodgers’ family and friends have expressed that her disappearance is uncharacteristic, noting her stable job in Washington and her close ties to her family and pets.
Comanche, who played a G League game in Henderson, Nevada, near Las Vegas, the night before Rodgers was reported missing, was released from the Stockton Kings, an affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, following his arrest. The Stockton Kings last played on December 12, with Comanche scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 assists in a loss to Salt Lake City.
The circumstances of Comanche’s presence in Las Vegas around the time of Rodgers’ disappearance are not clear. Harnden is currently held in jail on a $500,000 bail and is set to appear in court for the theft charge on December 19 and the kidnapping charge on December 28.
Judge Diana Sullivan, overseeing the case, has mandated high-level electronic monitoring for Harnden and requested immediate notification from the state if Rodgers is found alive.
Comanche, a 6′-10” center, was undrafted out of the University of Arizona and has played in 24 games over the last two seasons with the Kings. In his 13 appearances this season, he has accumulated 182 points, 15 assists, and 91 rebounds in 321 minutes of play.
