Derek Lobo, a fugitive who allegedly dragged a Massachusetts State Police trooper with his car in Brockton, Massachusetts, has been captured, according to authorities. The incident occurred during a traffic stop on Wednesday evening. Lobo was found hiding inside a Union Street home on Thursday afternoon and was arrested by the same trooper he is accused of dragging.
Dashcam footage from the initial traffic stop shows two troopers speaking with Lobo, who was seated in the driver’s seat with the door open. Unexpectedly, Lobo stepped on the gas and drove off, with one trooper leaning into the vehicle. The trooper could be seen clinging to the car as it accelerated away. After a few yards, the trooper fell onto the pavement, narrowly avoiding being hit by an oncoming car. The trooper sustained minor injuries.
Derek Lobo, 31, is now facing nearly a dozen charges, including assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, failure to stop for police, and trafficking fentanyl. He is scheduled to be formally arraigned on Friday.
