Freeway Shooting in Hayward Captured on Video, Suspect Arrested

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has released video footage of a shocking freeway shooting incident that took place on Tuesday around 4 p.m. on Interstate 880 in Hayward. The suspected gunman has been apprehended and arrested by the CHP, bringing a swift resolution to the case.

The video, captured by a vehicle in close proximity to the incident, shows the suspect driver rolling down their car window and aiming a handgun towards the recording vehicle. Fortunately, the victim inside the targeted vehicle escaped unharmed, although their vehicle sustained damage from being struck twice.

CHP wasted no time in obtaining warrants for both the suspect and the vehicle involved in the shooting. With the assistance of the Hayward Police Department, the suspect vehicle was located on Wednesday. Additionally, law enforcement recovered the weapon used in the shooting, which was determined to be a replica Glock 17 airgun utilizing .177 caliber metal BBs.

The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, has been booked into Santa Rita Jail on multiple felony charges. The severity of the charges reflects the gravity of the incident and the potential danger posed to innocent motorists on the freeway.

In an effort to gather more information and potential witnesses, the CHP is urging anyone who was in the vicinity of I-880 near I-238 during the time of the shooting to come forward. They are specifically seeking individuals who either witnessed the incident or experienced something similar.
