Four Injured in Violent Sideshow Shooting in Oakland

Four individuals were shot and wounded during a violent sideshow in Oakland’s Dimond District early Sunday morning, according to the Oakland Police Department. The incident occurred at approximately 4 a.m. at the intersection of Fruitvale Avenue and McArthur Boulevard, where a large gathering of vehicles and spectators had assembled.

The victims, two women aged 24 and 26 from Hayward and San Bernardino, respectively, and two men aged 21 and 22 from Oakland and San Pablo, were believed to be spectators. They managed to find their own transportation to a nearby hospital, where they received treatment and are currently listed in stable condition.

In addition to the injured individuals, a nearby business was also struck by gunfire, although further details regarding the extent of the damage were not disclosed.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and the Oakland Police Department is actively investigating the incident. No arrests have been made at this time. Authorities are working diligently to determine the factors that sparked this act of violence.

Sideshows in Oakland and the wider Bay Area have become an increasingly problematic issue over the years. In response, the Oakland City Council passed an ordinance last year, making it illegal to organize, facilitate, or promote such events. Violators of this ordinance may face misdemeanor charges and civil penalties, including jail time of up to six months or fines ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. Repeat offenders may face more severe penalties, and their vehicles could be towed and held for a 30-day period.

The Oakland Police Department advises individuals caught in the midst of a sideshow to seek a safe alternate route that allows them to avoid such activities.

Anyone with information regarding the Sunday morning sideshow is urged to contact the Oakland police at 510-238-3426.
