Four people were shot and killed in a series of connected shootings that occurred late Sunday and early Monday in southeast Los Angeles. Authorities have confirmed that the victims were not random targets, although the motive and suspects remain unknown at this time.
The first victim, identified as 24-year-old Kevin Pedraza, was found shot in a driveway near the Martha Escutia Primary Center in Bell around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday. Approximately 30 minutes later, another individual was shot and killed in the 1500 block of East Florence Avenue in Los Angeles. The shooting was reported to law enforcement at 1:52 a.m., but it is believed to have occurred around 12:08 a.m. The victim, a man whose identity has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin, was found deceased.
In a separate incident, a 14-year-old boy named Javier Pedraza Jr. was fatally shot outside the Ellen Ochoa Learning Center in Cudahy shortly before 2 a.m. Deputies responded to reports of gunfire in the area and discovered Javier and another injured boy. Despite the efforts of paramedics, Javier Pedraza Jr. succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The second victim was transported to a hospital and is currently in stable condition.
The final shooting occurred at approximately 2:37 a.m. in the 6300 block of Santa Fe Avenue in Huntington Park. An unidentified man was found shot and killed at the scene.
Law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation have confirmed that these shootings are connected and not random acts of violence. However, no further information regarding the suspects or motive has been released at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
