Four Children Injured, Two Seriously, in Suspected DUI Collision in Cupertino

Four young children were injured, two of them seriously, in a suspected DUI collision that occurred in Cupertino over the weekend. The incident took place around 6:15 p.m. on Saturday near the intersection of Foothill and Stevens Creek boulevards, according to a news release by Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Brooks Jarosz.

The collision involved a silver Mazda pickup truck and another vehicle, resulting in the pickup truck crashing into a power pole. Tragically, four children, aged 11, 8, 7, and 4, who were on the sidewalk at the time, were also struck by the vehicle.

Jarosz described the scene as “horrific” and emphasized that the incident could have been prevented. Two of the children sustained serious injuries and required immediate life-saving measures. All four children were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. As of Monday, one child remained in critical condition.

The driver of the Mazda, a 38-year-old Cupertino man, was arrested at the scene and subsequently booked into county jail. He faces charges of driving under the influence of drugs causing serious bodily injury.
