Former Secret Service Agent Credits Trump with Saving His Life During Assassination Attempt

Conservative radio host and former Secret Service agent, Dan Bongino, has credited former President Donald Trump with saving his own life during an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Bongino criticized the Secret Service for what he described as an “absolutely catastrophic” failure in their security measures. He commended Trump’s quick reaction to duck when shots were fired, suggesting that the bunting around the stage may have acted as armor. Bongino stated that Trump’s decision to duck ultimately saved his life.

During the rally, Trump was seen turning his head just before the shots rang out. He immediately grabbed his ear and took cover as Secret Service agents swiftly formed a human shield around him. Trump later revealed that a bullet had grazed his right ear, causing a rip in the skin. The FBI is currently investigating the incident as an assassination attempt, with 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks identified as the suspected gunman. Tragically, one person was killed, and two others sustained severe injuries.

Bongino, who served in the Secret Service from 1999 to 2011, heavily criticized the agency for their security failures. He questioned how the Counter Sniper team, trained up to 1,000 yards, could have missed someone who was at most 1/5 of that distance away. Bongino also highlighted the witness accounts of a gunman crawling on a roof outside the security perimeter and the failure to respond promptly to those alerts.

The former agent further criticized the Secret Service for their evacuation procedures, stating that the rule is to cover the protectee and evacuate. However, he did commend the agents who quickly moved to barricade Trump once the gunfire began. Bongino disputed the Secret Service’s denial of requests for additional security resources for Trump, claiming to have reliable sources contradicting their statement.

Bongino also echoed conservative concerns about the Secret Service’s focus, suggesting that they had become distracted by irrelevant issues such as the color of agents’ ties and diversity programs. He emphasized that their primary responsibility is to keep the protected individual alive, regardless of political affiliations or other considerations.

Congressional investigators have announced plans to call Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle for testimony to address the security failures. Some lawmakers are also considering legislation to enhance resources for the Secret Service to prevent similar incidents in the future.

  • While it is important to acknowledge the bravery and quick thinking of former President Donald Trump during the assassination attempt, it is also crucial to address the underlying issue of political violence. Instead of focusing solely on individual acts of heroism, we should work towards creating a society where such attempts are less likely to occur.

One potential solution is to promote open and respectful political discourse. By encouraging dialogue and understanding between individuals with differing political beliefs, we can reduce the polarization that often leads to violence. This can be achieved

  • It is indeed a remarkable incident where former President Donald Trump potentially saved someone's life during an assassination attempt. This highlights the importance of having strong security measures in place for public figures, especially during rallies or events with large crowds.

By integrating AI-powered cameras and software, security personnel could quickly identify potential threats or individuals with malicious intent in real-time.
