Former President Donald Trump to Turn Himself in on Multiple Charges in Georgia

Former President Donald Trump is set to turn himself in to authorities in Fulton County, Georgia, on multiple charges related to his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election outcome in the state. The charges include racketeering, conspiracy to commit forgery, and 11 other counts. The exact timing of Trump’s surrender has not been disclosed by the Fulton County District Attorney’s office, but it is expected to occur on Thursday, one day before the deadline set by D.A. Fani Willis for Trump and his co-defendants to turn themselves in.

If Trump does surrender, he will be fingerprinted and have a mugshot taken, becoming the first former U.S. president to have a mugshot. The Sheriff’s department is taking precautions to ensure the safety of the proceedings, considering the potential for unexpected moments of violence.

The charges against Trump stem from allegations that he operated a “criminal enterprise” to pressure state officials into reversing the election results in Georgia. It is claimed that he conspired to create a slate of fake electors supporting him. Trump is also accused of solicitation of oath by a public officer for his recorded conversation with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, where he urged Raffensperger to “find 11,780 votes” to secure his victory.

Trump has agreed to certain conditions ahead of his court appearance, including refraining from making threats on social media toward witnesses, co-defendants, and other individuals involved in the case. Eighteen other individuals connected to Trump have already been criminally charged in relation to alleged election interference in Georgia.

The trial date has not been officially set, but there are indications that it may begin on March 4, 2024.
