Former President Donald Trump was shot at during a rally in Lititz, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania on Saturday in an apparent assassination attempt, according to law enforcement officials. The incident has shocked the nation and prompted swift condemnation from politicians across the Bay Area.

Law enforcement officials have confirmed that shots were fired at Trump during the rally, resulting in a bloody ear. Secret Service agents quickly intervened and escorted him away from the podium. Trump’s campaign has stated that he is doing “fine” following the incident.

Tragically, one attendee was killed, while two others are critically injured. The shooter was swiftly neutralized by the Secret Service. As investigations into the shooting continue, local leaders are denouncing the act as an act of “political violence.”

Representative Ro Khanna expressed his appalled reaction to the incident, emphasizing that violence has no place in a democracy. Other politicians, including Representative Eric Swalwell and Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher, echoed similar sentiments, calling the attack despicable and emphasizing the need to condemn political violence.

State Senator Scott Wiener drew parallels to the 1978 assassinations of former San Francisco leaders George Mascone and Harvey Milk as he condemned the shooting. Representative Adam Schiff expressed his horror at the apparent assassination attempt and wished Trump a swift recovery.

Governor Gavin Newsom emphasized that violence has no place in democracy and extended his thoughts to Trump and all those impacted at the rally. Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who had previously experienced political violence, condemned the incident and called for unity against such acts.

Senator Laphonza Butler stressed the importance of not allowing political violence to become acceptable in democracy, while Senator Alex Padilla expressed his thoughts for those injured in the attack.

President Joe Biden expressed gratitude that Trump is safe and doing well, offering prayers for him, his family, and all those affected by the shooting. Vice President Kamala Harris echoed Biden’s sentiments, condemning the violence and calling for unity to prevent further acts of this nature.
