Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo Criticizes Indictment of Ex-President Trump in Hush Money Case

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has voiced his criticism of the indictment of ex-President Donald Trump in the hush money case involving adult film star Stormy Daniels. Speaking on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” Cuomo argued that the case should never have been brought forward, suggesting that it was pursued solely due to Trump’s status and political ambitions.

Cuomo, who previously served as New York’s attorney general, expressed his belief that the charges against Trump were politically motivated. He stated, “The attorney general’s case in New York, frankly, should have never been brought. And if his name was not Donald Trump and if he wasn’t running for president… I’m telling you that case would’ve never been brought.” Cuomo emphasized that such actions erode public trust in the justice system, posing a threat to democracy.

Trump was recently found guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records related to the payment made to silence Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign. The former president denies any involvement in an affair with Daniels. His legal team has announced plans to appeal the verdicts.

Cuomo’s remarks come after his own resignation as governor in August 2021, following an investigation that found he had sexually harassed or mistreated 11 women during his time in office. Despite the controversy, there have been reports suggesting Cuomo’s interest in a political comeback, potentially challenging Eric Adams for the position of New York City mayor in 2025.
