Former NBA Player Tony Allen Sentenced for Role in Health Insurance Scheme

Former NBA player Tony Allen, 41, has been sentenced to community service and three years of probation for his involvement in a health insurance scheme. Allen and his wife Desiree were charged with defrauding the league’s health insurance plan.

In April, he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud and wire fraud. Allen admitted to submitting false claims for medical and dental procedures, receiving approximately $420,000 from the league. The federal indictment revealed that a total of $4 million was paid out in false insurance claims.

While other players were also implicated in the scheme, Allen was one of the most prominent names involved. He played in the NBA for 14 years, winning a championship with the Boston Celtics in 2008 and earning recognition as a defensive standout.
