A 13-year-old student from Carwise Middle School in Pinellas County, Florida, was arrested on Saturday after allegedly sending threatening messages in a group chat. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office reported that the teenager used Snapchat to send messages to another student, discussing plans for a school shooting.
According to Fox 13, the suspect not only threatened to carry out the shooting but also warned the other student that he would be the first target if he disclosed the messages. The student who received the messages informed his parents, who promptly contacted law enforcement.
Upon arriving at the suspect’s residence, deputies questioned the 13-year-old, who admitted to sending the messages. However, he claimed that he was only joking when he sent them.
Following an investigation, the teenage suspect was arrested and charged with written threats to kill or conduct a mass shooting. He was subsequently transported to the Pinellas Juvenile Assessment Center.
