The Lee County Sheriffâs Office has arrested a man who stands accused of animal cruelty after throwing a dog over an apartment balcony. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=395502060238693 Deputies arrested Dalton Chad Sousa, 30, on Monday after they tracked him down following a report called from the Blue Pearl Animal Hospital in reference to an injured dog the day before. According to LCSO, the pet hospital reported that a man dropped off a 3-year-old chihuahua, stating she had been thrown off an apartment balcony âlike a footballâ by a friend. Deputies reported that the man verbally argued with the veterinarian before leaving Blue Pearl and the dog behind. The chihuahua, named Raven, sustained multiple fractures, including a broken leg and mandible. An investigation led deputies to the residence of the dogâs owner in Fort Myers, who was able to give detectives details that led them to the accused. Sousa was arrested and charged with aggravated animal cruelty. âIt is always disappointing to learn of an innocent animal abused by an owner they trust. I will continue to do my part to stand up for those who cannot defend themselves,â said Sheriff Carmine Marceno. Raven is in the care of Blue Pearl Hospital and is expected to recover fully. Sousa is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
A Fort Myers man, Dalton Chad Sousa, 30, is facing charges of aggravated animal cruelty after allegedly throwing his pet Chihuahua, Raven, off a balcony like a football. The incident occurred on Sunday, as reported by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Raven, a 3-year-old Chihuahua, suffered multiple fractures, including a broken leg and a broken mandible, due to the brutal act. The Lee County Sheriff, Carmine Marceno, expressed disappointment over the abuse, emphasizing the importance of standing up for those who cannot protect themselves. He stated, “Violent and abusive behavior towards an animal will not be tolerated in Lee County. This suspect will now pay the price for this disgusting crime.”
The authorities were alerted to the incident when they received a report of an injured dog at the Blue Pearl Animal Hospital. Upon arrival, they discovered Raven in a bruised and battered state. Initially, the dog’s owner claimed that a friend had thrown Raven, but subsequently left her at the vet’s office after a dispute with the staff. This prompted the veterinary staff to contact the sheriff’s office.
Following an investigation, Dalton Chad Sousa was located and charged with aggravated animal cruelty on Monday. Raven, who was photographed wearing a cast on her front paw and a neck brace, is currently receiving treatment from the veterinarian and is expected to make a full recovery.
Dalton Chad Sousa is currently being held at the Lee County Jail on $5,000 bail, according to records.
