Florida Man Charged with 100+ Counts After Rhode Island Shooting and Chase

Joshua Pavao, a Florida motorist, appeared in court on Monday following a shooting incident and a subsequent car chase in East Providence, Rhode Island. Law enforcement officials have brought more than 100 charges against Pavao, including possessing a large capacity feeding device, discharging a weapon from a vehicle, eluding an officer, and obstructing officers.

During the chase, Pavao crashed into several other vehicles before his SUV eventually crashed and spilled bullets and cartridges on a roadway in East Providence. He then abandoned his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by the police.

Authorities recovered more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition from Pavao’s black Nissan Armada, along with several guns found in a discarded backpack along the chase route.

In court, no pleas were entered, and Pavao’s bail was set at $100,000 with surety. He was ordered to surrender all firearms and his passport. Pavao, who resides with a parent in Florida, will only be allowed to return to the state after meeting pre-trial conditions.

Police Chief Christopher Francesconi described the situation as “extremely volatile” and emphasized the danger Pavao posed to residents and law enforcement officers.

The court clerk’s office did not immediately provide information on Pavao’s legal representation.
