Florida Man Arrested for Moving Murder Victim’s Body

A Florida man, Shannon Owens, 31, of Winter Haven, was arrested after multiple witnesses saw him attempting to move a murder victim’s body in Lakeland, Florida. The incident occurred on Deeson Road at approximately 11:20 p.m. on Saturday. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding a shooting in the area.

According to investigators, the victim had gone to a nearby property and met with Owens. Shortly after their meeting, a gunshot was heard. Witnesses reported seeing Owens trying to remove the victim’s body, which had sustained an upper body gunshot wound.

Several witnesses detained Owens until first responders arrived at the scene. Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister commended the efforts of the deputies and detectives involved in determining the sequence of events and holding the suspect accountable for the murder.

Owens now faces charges of second-degree murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and several out-of-county warrants. The victim’s identity has not been released, and the investigation remains open and active.
