Florida Man Arrested for Assaulting Teen at School Bus Stop

Jarrett Garrett McCabe

Jarrett Garrett McCabe, a Lakeland resident with a prior second-degree murder conviction, has been taken into custody this week on charges of simple battery. The arrest followed an incident at a school bus stop on David Street in Lakeland, where McCabe allegedly attacked a 16-year-old boy, as per a statement from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

McCabe, 47, reportedly acted after being informed by a neighbor that his son was jumped by two boys. However, the sheriff’s investigation indicated that while physical altercations did occur between McCabe’s son and the boys, they did not constitute a jumping. Following a fight on Monday, the teenage boy and his mother had a conversation with McCabe, leading to an apology from the boy.

The subsequent day, McCabe waited at the bus stop, ostensibly to monitor any further conflicts involving his son. Upon the boys’ disembarkation from the bus, McCabe confronted them. He admitted to detectives that he slapped one boy, but a DoorDash driver who witnessed the event reported that McCabe actually punched the teenager in the face and stomach.

The teen assaulted by McCabe was previously involved in a fight with McCabe’s son. The second boy, also at the scene during the confrontation, was unharmed. This incident led to McCabe’s arrest, adding another chapter to his contentious legal history.
