Florida Family Sentenced for Selling Toxic Bleach as COVID-19 Cure

A federal judge in Miami has sentenced a Florida man and his three adult sons for selling a toxic industrial bleach as a fake COVID-19 cure through their online church. Jonathan Grenon, 37, and Jordan Grenon, 29, received a sentence of 12 years and seven months in prison, while Mark Grenon, 66, and Joseph Grenon, 36, were each sentenced to five years. The Grenons, who represented themselves, were found guilty in July of conspiring to defraud the United States and deliver misbranded drugs.

The Grenons operated the Genesis II Church of Health and Healing, which sold their so-called Miracle Mineral Solution as a cure for various diseases, including COVID-19. Prosecutors referred to the Grenons as “con men” and “snake-oil salesmen,” stating that the family sold approximately $1 million worth of the solution. However, the substance they were selling was actually chlorine dioxide, a bleach used in industrial applications.

Authorities have warned that ingesting the solution can be fatal, as it is the same as drinking bleach. In 2020, a Miami federal judge ordered the church to cease selling the substance, but the Grenons ignored the order. Jonathan and Jordan Grenon were arrested in Bradenton, Florida, while Mark and Joseph Grenon fled to Colombia. They were later arrested and extradited back to the United States.

In addition to the fraud convictions, Jonathan and Jordan Grenon were also found guilty of violating federal court orders to stop selling Miracle Mineral Solution in 2020. The contempt charges against Mark and Joseph Grenon were dropped as a condition of their extradition from Colombia.
