Federal Agents Launch Criminal Probe into Mayor Tiffany Henyard’s Alleged Misappropriation of Funds

Federal agents have initiated a criminal investigation into the actions of Tiffany Henyard, the mayor of Dolton, a suburb of Chicago. Last week, Henyard, who also serves as the Thorntown Township Supervisor, was served with subpoenas by FBI agents at the Thorntown Township Hall, according to Fox 32 Chicago.

The subpoenas, obtained by the local station, indicate that Henyard is the primary target of the probe. The first subpoena focuses on Henyard’s personal work and seeks a range of documents, including personnel files, wage and tax records, time and attendance records, contracts, and checks written to “cash” from her various endeavors, such as her restaurant, property management company, political action committee, and a charity bearing her name.

The second subpoena pertains to the township and requests financial documents such as budgets, payroll records, ordinances covering credit card purchases, expense reports, reimbursements, security details, and vehicle usage.

Former FBI agent Ross Rice, who reviewed the subpoenas, noted the broad scope of the investigation, suggesting serious allegations of wrongdoing. Rice stated, “There must be some serious allegations of wrongdoing that they’re trying to get to the bottom of.”

Henyard has faced accusations of misusing taxpayer funds to cover personal expenses, including maintaining a police security detail and engaging in unnecessary and extravagant travel. The Dolton village board unanimously voted to investigate these allegations, but Henyard vetoed the resolution. Subsequently, the board hired former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, a federal prosecutor, to conduct an independent investigation into Henyard’s spending. The board also invited the FBI to initiate its own probe.

Numerous complaints against Henyard have been filed with the FBI, according to Lawrence Gardner, a business owner who personally lodged a complaint. Gardner alleges that Henyard forced the closure of his trucking business after he refused to renew a $3,500 political contribution.
