Deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a fatal shooting and murder-suicide that occurred in Riverview, Florida. The incident took place in the 11000 block of Lynmoor Drive in the Summerfield subdivision.

On Saturday around 4 p.m., deputies received multiple calls reporting the incident. One neighbor reported that a man had fled his house and was shot several times. Another call described a man running through the subdivision while brandishing a firearm.

Upon arrival, deputies encountered the armed man, who was threatening to take his own life. After a 16-minute interaction, deputies were able to de-escalate the situation and arrest the individual without further incident, using a non-lethal projectile to prevent him from accessing his firearm again.

During this time, deputies responded to another call in the same area and discovered a victim who had been shot multiple times in the lower torso, hands, and face. The victim was transported to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition.

Further investigation led deputies to a nearby driveway, where they found a deceased female victim with a gunshot wound. The victim was identified as a relative of the armed suspect.

According to the sheriff, a family member reported hearing an argument between the suspect’s mother and her boyfriend, followed by gunshots. The witness stated that the suspect shot his own mother after the argument and then pursued the mother’s boyfriend through the neighborhood.

The 14-year-old suspect, who had no prior criminal history, was apprehended by authorities. Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed his disbelief at the tragic events, emphasizing that no argument should ever result in the murder of one’s own mother.

Officials are awaiting a search warrant as the investigation continues. Domestic violence victims can seek assistance by calling the National Hotline at 800-799-7233, while The Spring of Tampa Bay provides local resources for those experiencing domestic violence.
