Former NFL player Sergio Brown was arrested in a dramatic incident at the Mexico City airport over the weekend. Brown, who is accused of murdering his mother, engaged in a physical altercation with Mexican law enforcement officers as they attempted to extradite him to the United States. The incident was captured on video by a passenger named Michelle Williams.
The footage shows Brown visibly agitated as two officers tried to restrain him in his seat on an Aeromexico plane. Brown repeatedly claimed he was being kidnapped and pushed one of the officers before being restrained by the other. Despite the struggle, Brown was eventually transported to the U.S. and booked into a San Diego jail on Tuesday.
Authorities revealed that Brown was arrested on a warrant for first-degree murder in connection with the death of his mother, Myrtle Brown. She was found deceased with apparent assault injuries last month. Sergio Brown had been in Mexico following his mother’s death, reportedly partying and drinking in Tulum.
Brown, who played in the NFL from 2010 to 2016, is now scheduled to be transported to Illinois to face the murder charge.
