Tommy Manzo, the ex-husband of “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star Dina Manzo, has been released on bail as he awaits trial for his alleged involvement in hiring a mobster to assault her now-spouse, according to federal court documents. The New Jersey restaurateur recently posted a $100,000 bond in preparation for his upcoming racketeering trial, scheduled to begin on May 20.
Court papers reveal that Manzo is accused of recruiting a member of the Lucchese crime family, John Perna, to carry out the attack on David Cantin, Dina Manzo’s then-boyfriend and current husband, back in 2015. In exchange for his assistance, Manzo allegedly promised Perna a heavily discounted wedding at his catering hall, The Brownstone, located in Paterson, NJ.
In July 2015, Perna and an associate confronted Cantin in the parking lot of a North Jersey strip mall, where they assaulted him with a slapjack. The brutal attack left Cantin battered and scarred, as stated in court documents. Five years later, both Perna and his associate were arrested and indicted for their involvement. Perna pleaded guilty to committing a violent crime in aid of racketeering activity and received a prison sentence of nearly three years. His associate’s trial status remains unclear, as they did not appear to have gone to trial.
Manzo’s case has faced numerous delays and setbacks, leading to its dismissal without prejudice earlier this year due to a violation of his right to a speedy trial. However, last month, federal authorities re-indicted Manzo on the same charges, including violent crime in aid of racketeering activity, conspiracy to commit an assault with a dangerous weapon, and falsifying and concealing records related to a federal investigation.
Additionally, Manzo still faces pending state charges in Monmouth County, NJ, which accuse him and another individual of breaking into Dave and Dina’s home in Holmdel, NJ, in May 2017. The charges allege that they assaulted Dina and her husband with a bat before robbing them. The next hearing for this case is scheduled for April 29, according to state prosecutors.

I can’t say that I have a personal experience or story directly related to this specific situation, but I have followed the Real Housewives of New Jersey and this news is quite shocking. It’s always disheartening to hear about domestic violence cases, especially when it involves people in the public eye.
I think it’s important to remember that domestic violence can happen to anyone, regardless of their social status or fame. It’s a sad reality that even those who seem to have it all can be victims
