Ex-Con and Former “Jeopardy!” Contestant Arrested in Investigation of Sexualized Images at Elite Brooklyn Private School

An ex-con and former “Jeopardy!” contestant, Winston Nguyen, was arrested last week at St. Ann’s School in Brooklyn Heights as part of an investigation into the dissemination of sexualized images on social media. Nguyen, who previously served time in Rikers Island for stealing $300,000 from an elderly couple, was taken into custody in front of a crowd of students. Although he has not been charged, the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office is currently investigating the matter.

Nguyen’s lawyer, Frank Rothman, confirmed that they are awaiting a decision from the Brooklyn DA’s office regarding potential charges. The spokesperson for St. Ann’s School, where Nguyen worked as a math teacher, confirmed that he is a suspect in an ongoing investigation related to the dissemination of intimate images via social media. The school immediately placed Nguyen on leave upon his arrest and he remains on leave at present.

The Head of School, Kenyatte Reid, informed parents of Nguyen’s arrest, stating that the investigation dates back to January 2024. Reid later revealed in a follow-up email that the investigation pertained to inappropriate sexualized images. Nguyen has been barred from contacting anyone in the school community and from visiting the school.

Nguyen had been teaching at St. Ann’s School since 2020, just one year after his release from Rikers Island. During his time in jail, he publicly criticized the conditions at the Department of Corrections, even calling into a radio show to speak with Mayor Bill de Blasio. He later filed a lawsuit against the city.

St. Ann’s School, known for its prestigious reputation, conducted a comprehensive background check, including criminal records, during Nguyen’s hiring process. The school spokesperson stated that a nonviolent criminal record may not preclude employment, as the school carefully assesses a candidate’s potential fit.

No comments were provided by Nguyen in response to The Post’s request for comment. St. Ann’s School, with its notable alumni and staff, including Lena Dunham, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Maya Hawk, charges tuition fees ranging from $52,900 for preschoolers to $60,525, plus additional fees, for high school students.
